The Great Migration: Nature's Greatest Show
Follow the wildebeest migration through Serengeti and learn the best viewing spots and times.

The Great Migration is one of nature's most spectacular events, involving over 1.5 million wildebeest, 350,000 Thomson's gazelles, and 200,000 zebras moving in a continuous cycle through the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem.
January to March: Calving season in southern Serengeti. Over 400,000 calves are born during this time, attracting predators and creating incredible wildlife viewing opportunities.
April to June: The herds move north and west, following the rains and fresh grass. This is when the dramatic river crossings at Grumeti River occur, though less famous than Mara River crossings.
July to October: The herds reach the northern Serengeti and cross the Mara River into Kenya's Masai Mara. This is the most famous phase with dramatic river crossings and high predator activity.
November to December: The herds return south to the Serengeti plains, completing the cycle. This is when the short rains begin, bringing fresh grass to the southern plains.
Best viewing strategies: Follow your guide's radio communications, be patient at river crossing points, and remember that timing can vary based on rainfall patterns each year.
